Presentation of a Project Proposal for a Video Streaming System for the Texas Education Telecommunications Network
Unit 11: 6/4/2005

This section concerns my reflecting in the post project environment. I have incorporated this content into my IAL Project Final Report

1)
What steps remain to be accomplished "after" concluding your project?

The project is complete and the finished request for proposal (RFP) will be sent to vendors for them to take action on. After proposals are received, vendors will be selected based on the selection criteria in the RFP.

2) How will you announce the completion of your project?

Project completion will not be formally announced. Many vendors are already aware of the RFP’s progress and have been requesting a copy. In the next phase of the project, after proposals are received, there will be an official announcement of who is awarded the contract.

3) How will you celebrate the concluding of your project?

There is no big celebration planned, but there will be several smaller celebrations during lunch.

4) How will you benefit from producing your project?

I believe the greatest benefit to me in producing this project has been the added knowledge and confidence I have to initiate more projects. I believe there are many more projects that need to be done to improve the services our organization offers.

5) Who has been involved in your project?

The primary person involved in the project is Carol Willis, the TETN Manager and project stakeholder. She gave me the opportunity to work on this project and supported it throughout. Dr. Bender provided the learning and advice I needed to organize and manage a successful project. Benny Bailiff and Martin Zamarripa provided technical advice on network infrastructure and video equipment. The Deputy Director of Education Service Center, Region XIII, Dr. Joe Thedford, provided invaluable guidance on legal and business issues. Numerous technical vendors and TETN Site Managers provided input too.

6) Whom have you invited to visit your project tracking website during the production?

I've invited the stakeholder, technical advisors, and some family members to view it. The Web site will remain up in the future for more people to view.

7) What did you learn in producing your project?

I've copied what I learned from the "lessons learned" portion of the final report. I was already familiar with a large part of the technology used in this project. The project planning and management was where most of my learning occurred. The major lessons learned in producing my IAL Project include:

1. The value of thoroughly planning and researching any project. I believe that following this method in particular allowed me to successfully complete my project ahead of schedule.
2. The value of monitoring the project through a weekly tracking Web site. This keeps you focused on project objectives and provides important weekly research that can be used for the next phase of the project.
3. The value of completing the final report. This does not directly affect the project, but does provide the opportunity to reflect on what has happened throughout the process. The knowledge gained from the report completion, planning, and weekly tracking will be used by me, and recommended to others, for future projects.

I requested and received feedback from all the people involved in this project. The feedback received from the stakeholder, technical advisors, and potential system users guided my equipment and software specification research and analysis. The feedback I received from administrative services on the business and legal portion ensured the final product was fair and legal. With the addition of Dr. Bender’s positive advice and her learning resources, such as the Capstone Learning Center Web site, everything came together very smoothly. All this feedback helped me document a request for a proposal that met everyone’s needs. Specific feedback is documented throughout my weekly tracking Web site. My learning has been that my project was better because it truly was a team effort.

The main learning goal for me in this project was to develop the video services of my organization and develop an understanding of how to research the best technical solution. I believe I’ve met and exceeded this goal and I’m confident I now have the expertise to lead similar projects in the future. There was some technological learning in this project, but I feel this was secondary to the expertise I gained in project management.

8) Concerning the Thinking Habits, how did you use the thinking habit of “Connected Seeing” to organize your project? Did “Constructing Meaning” come into play as you were implementing your project and how did this occur? Were there any areas of your project where you had to struggle to “clarify the meaning of concepts?” How did you resolve these ambiguities?

I used "Connected Seeing" to help me visualize what the result of my project might be. Visualizing the components that would work together to form the video streaming system helped me organize my project with the necessary tasks and timelines that were used in the project plan. "Constructing Meaning" came into play when the specification for individual system components were researched and analyzed. This analysis provided a better understanding of the system as a whole. I didn't have an issue with clarifying any concepts. The resources provided made everything clear about the project management and my research helped with the technical aspects.

9) Overall, was your project a success in your view?

I believe this project was a success, in and of itself, and as a springboard to other beneficial projects. I think there is the potential that this learning can be extended to other colleagues that may do projects as well.

Please see my Acknowledgements and Dedications pages. I have provided a list of the individuals who I wish to acknowledge among the individuals who assisted me, and why. I have also identified to whom I wish to dedicate my project.
